It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of another year. What has happened to the time? Many of us stopped counting time at the end of March while others just simply do not have enough time. Regardless, we might remember a saying repeated by many that “time is nonrefundable.” Once it is gone, it is gone forever. However, it’s not too late to think about how we will use the remainder of this year in a timely manner. Here are three tips to help us re-evaluate how we can spend our time wisely.
- Be organized
Preparation is the key to be organized. Think ahead and prioritize a list of important to-dos, marking those that are urgent in comparison to those that can be scheduled for a later time. Being organized will help you to 1. make the most effective use of your time 2. increase productivity 3. eliminate nonessential tasks that eat up your time and energy. Being organized helps to reduces stress and anxiety while creating an effective and efficient lifestyle – gaining a few extra minutes a day.
2. Set goals
Procrastination will eat up time and hinder productivity. When we do not set definite goals, life’s uncertainties will make us undecisive and nothing will be accomplished. Time will continue to pass us by. What are some steps to setting a goal? 1. Decide on what you would like to or need to accomplish 2. Write down the tangible results or outcomes that you would like to see? 3. Consider using the SMART formula to plan your goals for success. Whatever the case, making the decision to plan a goal will help you to manage your time wisely.
3. Balance work and home life
At the end of day, workaholics simply have no time or energy left. There must be balance in our lives and most importantly, sleep and relaxation. Sleep does consume time, but in a good way as it adds to our productivity in concentration, memory and learning, whereas sleep deprivation leads to accidents, errors and a negative attitude. If anything, Covid-19 has taught us to relax and spend precious time with family and friends in homes or via zoom. Balancing work and home means that we must be realistic and conscious of our physical, mental and emotional needs.
Given the stress and anxiety that we face on a day to day basis, now is a good time to reflect on the three tips above so that we do not run out of time. Remember, “time is non-refundable, spend it wisely.” Anonymous
